Deepawali at SewaKunj

Awesome Scene! A silent Diwali!

Sewakunj Ashram is away from any human settlement in the radious of two kilometers. It is surrounded by trees. This is situated in jungle area for providing basic education to Vanvasi Children.

Although it is the only decoration done for celebration purpose, yet it is different and full of vigour.

So I spent this auspices occasion of Dipawali which is celebrated for remembering the victory of Ram over Ravan and his return to Ayodhya. Ram spent fourteen years of his early life (Youth) in Jungle with Vanvasi.

After lighting and some songs with rhythmic claps, we gathered in room. Children enjoyed with sweets. After sweet distribution, the session of Kirtan and Bhajan started.

The rhythmic claps on the beats of Dholak and harmonics of Harmonium made us thrill with joy. The song was enjoyable and relevant to the occasion.

With the acceptance of modern technologies people forgot their talent in cities. But all these methods of enjoyment is still preserved in villages. They knew how to enjoy in life in limited resources.

This was a memorable Deepawali for me. This was the third unique Dipawali in my life. The first one was in Navodaya in class sixth and the next one in IIT Kharagpur.

Contribution: Be the part of this noble cause

The success of social organization does not only depend upon the devotion of people in charge of the organization, but it also depends upon how generously it is recognized by the fellow men of the land. Common people of future generation are glorified by the action of their ancestors in the present. As Sewa Samarpan Sansthan has none of its own earning source and it is also not getting any government aid, its functioning completely depends upon the contribution of individuals who recognizes the importance of such work. Although there are many people who are contributing generously, there is need of more resources for better result.

Expenditures

  • For keeping one student, there is need of five hundred rupees monthly. Many people have adopted child and they are paying for their expenses. Till now 40 children have been adopted. But there are 95 students in both the Ashram. All have to make their live on the same amount.
  • There is need of some good teachers. As it is in very remote area, it is very difficult for arranging part time teachers for minimizing cost. One teacher is ready to stay in Ashram for teaching science and mathematics. He will be paid Rs. 12000. Another teacher is ready to teach social science and Hindi for Rs. 8000 a month.
  • There is need of better books in Ashram. Students have no grammar books. They also need guide for preparing the entrance exam of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Availability of computers and other modern means will enhance their learning. There is dearth of all these means there.

How could you contribute?

  • Provide food for one time in a month. For that you have to contribute Rs. 1100 monthly.
  • Adopt a child (The yearly expenditure on a child comes about Rs. 6000.). Contribute Rs. 500 every month or give all amounts yearly.
  • Contribute for providing teaching facility there. As mentioned above, for keeping two teachers there, it costs about Rs. 20000 Monthly.
  • Contribute generously according to your own wish. Contribution in any form (books, pens, sports’ material, and any other objects which have some use in home) is accepted.
  • Give a visit to the Ashram.

KriyaKalap (Activities)

Education

  • Chhatrawas (Hostel-cum-school )

Students in these areas are not getting better ambience for education. For all round development of some tribal students from different parts of this district, two hostels one at Karirar, Chapki and another at Bari, Dala are run. About 95 students are availing its benefit in these two hostels. They are getting education till class 6th there in the Ashram and after that they have to go nearby high-school at the distance of 7km on bicycle daily.

Students are trained in archery, their traditional sport. Every year about 10-12 students are selected by national sport authority.

Students are financially helped for continuing for higher education.

  • Balwadi Kendra

This is run just like a primary school in those villages where there is no functional government schools. Such schools have educated people of the remotest area. Earlier total number of such schools was 26, but it is now run at 8 places only. The rest is now run by Government.

Health

  • Medical camp
  • Monthly medical camp
  • Future Plan: To run a fully fledged Hospital

Self-dependence

A tribal village was self dependent. We have to come up with ideas to create job opportunity for youth in their village only. These are the area which has potential to generate job opportunities.

  • Develop organic farming to increase produce with least cost
  • Animal Husbandry (Gosala, Kukkut palan, etc.)
  • Jadi-booty (Become an intermediary to provide proper price to the workers), some may be trained to treat people in the villages.
  • Occupation based on use of leaves (Tendu, Palas)
  • Fruit-processing unit (amla, mahua, guava, mango etc.)

Dignity

  • Recognition of their culture

Tribal people are proud of their age long traditional culture. So besides doing the giant job of bringing them in main stream, it is the duty of civilized world to give a respectable status to their customs and traditions. Keeping this in mind, Sewa Samarpan Sansthan organizes public events where people are getting chance to perform their own cultural heritage among the audience. Students in Chhatrawas are encouraged to learn those traditional dances and folklores. Whenever there some public program is conducted, these children are encouraged to performance. They all have got applause from eminent personalities for their quality.

  • Enhancement of their sports capability

Given the chance they will excel in sports. Keeping this in mind, students are trained in Archery. Every year many students are selected by sports committee of Government for further training. They have won many regional and national awards.

SAGA of SewaSamarpan Sansthan

Sewa Samarpan Sansthan was started by Awadh Bihariji. After completion of his Master of Science, he devoted his life for social cause. Inspired for serving Mother India, he reached at Kachanarava, a small village in Chopan block of Sonbhadra District of Uttar Pradesh in 1980. This village was completely cut-off from the rest of area and it was also devoid of basic facilities for education and health. People were forced to live in primitive state, vulnerable to criminality. In such a grave situation he started his work of providing basic education to the children in a small hut. Because of his effort people around the 40km of circle got blessed with education, primary requirement for leading a better dignified life.

With the passage of time and due to his sheer effort several Balwadi Kendras were opened in surrounding villages. Within a span of ten years from 1985 to 1995, the number of such centres increased to 27. As a consequence of this self-less service, Government attention turned towards these areas and these Balwadis were converted into Government schools. Now there are only 6 Balwari Kendras running. These Balwari Kendras are running at Karail, Kachnarava, Fudnadandi, Murkatti, Sadhubathan and Saraiya.

For giving proper training to the tribal students and bringing them on single platform, Chhatrawas (hostel) was started at Bari, in Dala in 1991. It was started with eight tribal students. Presently 25 students are taken care of in this hostel. The hostel is running by the help of people around the area who are contributing generously.

Full of enthusiasm and intense desire for serving Mother Land, Munishji, just after completion of his engineering degree from IT-BHU, came to stay in the jungle at Karinar, Chapki with his colleague and social worker Harishji in 2000. They started SewaKunj Ashram for tribal students. With the selfless effort of these great souls and blessings of people in surrounded region, the capacity of this Ashram has increased for keeping sixty students. Although there is always dearth of proper resources, it was able to bring a great change in the lives of tribal-students of this district. Many students got chance for higher education. Many students got good job in Government sector. Such successes won the confidence of villagers who started approaching the Ashram willingly to keep their children in the hostel. People of this area are now feeling connected with the rest of country. They can feel the heat of development of nation by availing the facilities of these changes. Besides focusing on education, students are also taught Sanskar. They learn to live a well disciplined life and inculcate values. These values help them earning respect from their parents as well as villagers. SewaKunj Ashram has got such a fame in tribals of this area that hundreds of them are coming here with their children with the hope that their children might get chance to stay in the Ashram.

Our Mother Land has been glorified through ages by the service of her sons. In all ages many simple persons have been touching the height of greatness by their selfless and consistent service for their fellow men amidst tremendous difficulties. Anandji is such a gem in the garland of great sons of our motherland. He is well known and revered as Guruji among the Vanwasis in Sonbhadra district. After completion of his degree in Law from a reputed college in Allahabad, he devoted his life for social cause. The responsibility of Sewa Samarpan Sansthan is now on his shoulder. He has to manage everything for running the organization. Meeting enumerable people every day in the radius of 200 km for arranging resources which are always in short for the Ashram in such a remote area is the routine of Anandji. He has to move in tribal villages to guide them and help them. His true service and suffering for larger cause has enlightened many people working in companies who have started contributing generously in this great Yagna. But there is need of more and more people get connected to such great mission and become part of this by contributing in their own capacity. All must visit this place which has been turned holy by the sacrifices and touch of great souls.

SEWA-SAMARPAN SANSTHAN

Sewa-Samarpan Sansthan, a Gurukul, is located in Babhani (Chapki), Beejpur in Sonebhadra District of Uttar Pradesh. It is 30 Km ride from NTPC Rihand Nagar.

Ashram provides free education and residence to sixty tribal children till class sixth. After that students go to nearby high schools by bicycles. Intelligent students are promoted for pursuing higher education.

This ahsram has churned the lives of tribal people who have been living in primitive ages. They all were taught to take care of their own children and understand the family values. Children are brought up in such a way that they do all their daily works by themselves. They got appreciation by their behaviour to their parents.

Anandji, a lawyer by degree from reputed Allahabad University, has dedicated his lives for the welfare of these people. Meeting with at least twenty-five families a day in the circle of 200 km radious is his habit for collecting resources for running the Ashram. He also raoms in jungle of Sonebhadra District to meet tribal people and understand their lives and difficulties.

This Ashram has nurtured the traditiona cultures of these tribes of fourteen types. They all have been given a single platform for showing their talent to village and urban people. Tribal children are very good in Archery. They all are made to practice for Archery everyday. About 10-12 students are selected by National Archery department for further training and education.

The work done by the Ashram is simply a demonstration of the change brought by a single man. Lots are needed to be done. Lets extend our hand to this Ashram by monetory or in other form of contribution. Your mere visit to this place will be blessing for the children staying in the hostel.
